Strengthening cross-border and inter-institutional collaboration
Fraunhofer EMI and ISL sign cooperation agreement
Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics EMI and the German-French Research Institute Saint-Louis (ISL) are intensifying their collaboration in security and defense research.

The Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, EMI, and the German-French Research Institute Saint-Louis (ISL) signed a cooperation agreement on October 2, 2025. The goal is to strengthen cross-border and inter-institutional collaboration to achieve excellent research objectives in security and defense research.
For decades, ISL and Fraunhofer EMI have maintained a close exchange rooted not only in their shared research fields but also in a significant historical connection: physicist Hubert Schardin served as the director of ISL and was the founder and director of Fraunhofer EMI. This legacy continues to foster a strong and trustful collaboration between both research institutions to this day.
The signing of the joint agreement establishes the collaboration of the two institutes on a broader basis. It creates a framework for an even stronger exchange and provides access to research on new systemic components and current technologies.
This long-term partnership not only strengthens the scientific community and industrial partners but also contributes to security in Europe.
