Honorary Professorship for Professor Dr. Martin Sauer
The University of the Bundeswehr Munich has appointed Professor Dr. Martin Sauer as an honorary professor in the field of "High Dynamics".
Professor Dr. Martin Sauer, head of the "Numerical Methods and Software Development" group at the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, Ernst-Mach-Institut (EMI), has been appointed Honorary Professor at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich in Neubiberg. The Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Silja Hoffmann, presented him with the certificate of appointment for the honorary professorship in the field of "High Dynamics" on April 29, 2026.
The civil engineer with a doctorate has held a teaching position at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich for the past ten years, at the Institute of Mechanics and Statics.
Professor Dr. Martin Sauer’s research and publications focus on the development and application of numerical methods for high-speed dynamic processes and on material modeling in this field. A key priority is always the transfer of research and development results into practical applications.
Professor Dr. Martin Sauer studied civil engineering at TU Darmstadt, where he graduated in 1993. After working in an engineering office for three years, he decided to pursue a doctorate at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, which he completed successfully in 2000.
Since 2000, Professor Dr. Martin Sauer has held various positions at Fraunhofer EMI. He currently leads the “Numerical Methods and Software Development” group and is acting head of the “Material at Highest Strain Rates s” group. He is also deputy head of the department “Dynamics of Materials, Simulation Methods, and Digitalization.”
