Research Profile
|
The Fraunhofer Ernst-Mach-Institut, EMI, is an institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft dealing with a wide spectrum of subjects in the fields of applied physics, mechanical engineering, and aerospace technology.
The institute’s research profile includes material sciences, high-performance computing, sensor technology, ballistronics (combination of ballistics with microelectronics and micromechanics) and high-speed measurement techniques.
The recording of high-speed processes is made possible by a broad spectrum of methods that facilitate the measurement and visualization of processes within milliseconds or even nano seconds, at high pressures up to 1 megabar, and at extreme strain rates up to 106 s-1.
Parallel to this, computer simulations are carried out in the field of compressible flows at high Reynolds numbers and in the field of non-linear, finite element methods, and computer codes for specific applications are developed and adapted.
The applications are in the areas of defense, security, space and transport.
